I CAN
Make Chatter Matter
I CAN is the children’s communication charity. I CAN gives children, their parents and the children’s workforce the tools for communication that transforms lives.
During the year I CAN has worked with four shopping centres including Lakeside Shopping Centre, Thurrock; Victoria Centre, Nottingham; The Potteries Shopping Centre, Stoke-on-Trent and Metrocentre, Newcastle on their awareness raising campaign Make Chatter Matter. Together I CAN and CSC have highlighted the importance of developing children’s speech, language and communication skills so they are able to learn, make friends and achieve their potential.
Public sing-a-longs took place at three centres, where information on supporting children’s communication development was provided free to families and nursery workers. A particular highlight was July’s singing and dancing extravaganza event at the Victoria Centre hosted by ANYONE4THEATRE?, a theatre group run by young people for children focused on reducing anti-social behaviour and encouraging communication skills.
As a result of this partnership, I CAN handed out over 11,000 information packs to local families and nursery workers and engaged 6,000 families in fun and educational events.
