Stakeholders

Supply chain

We recognise the wide range of potential impacts arising from our supply chain as it relates to the development of our property portfolio and the procurement of the products and services for its management and operation. To this end, we have established procedures for working with key suppliers to deliver our CR objectives. Our service providers are increasingly making efforts to benchmark their performance and actively support our CR objectives through their operational practices.

The contracts of the three main service providers include details of the required standards of ethical trading and corporate social responsibility, underpinned by a number of specific performance indicators relating to energy, waste and CR. Compliance to these performance standards is monitored by each centre’s General Manager and at head office by our Contract Manager. Each service provider, at each centre, is formally reviewed monthly and will be audited annually.

External audits are also conducted to ensure our service providers adhere to legal requirements and best practice. In early 2008 we have audited our three principal providers of outsourced services in respect of CR management to ensure that our CR values are reflected throughout the operations of each company.

Where possible, we use suppliers and contractors local to our operations and we pay our suppliers within the contractual terms of settlement.

Recognition for Europa at Chapelfield

Europa, one of CSC’s outsourced services partners, reached the finals of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management Awards for Environmental Excellence in the Recycling Performance of the Year category with its contract at Chapelfield Shopping Centre in Norwich.

Europa worked with Chapelfield and its owner Capital Shopping Centres, to raise the recycling rate from 17% in July 2006 to 45% by June 2007 – more than a 250 fold increase.

In just one month the recycling increased by 16.4 tonnes. In 2006 Chapelfield handled 793 tonnes of rubbish recycling 250 tonnes.

The impressive results that have been achieved are down to the hard work, enthusiasm and professionalism of the Europa team working in partnership with CSC Management. The team works at all levels to strive for the best possible recycling rates. As with any new process, both successes and challenges have occurred with the successes being celebrated and the challenges overcome.

We consider this nomination demonstrates how our policy of engagement with stakeholders in the supply chain works to the benefit all concerned.
